 It is
a deciduous succulent plant from the Bambacaceae family. It is
originally from lower lands of Argentina and Brazil. Soft, thick
and green stems are covered with thick Rose-type thorns. Leaves
originate from branches in all directions and have 5-7 fingers,
in the form of a hand. Produces attractive pink-purple or
yellowish-white large flowers in autumn. Flowers are of funnel
shape with 10 cm or more in diameter. After the flowers the
produced is of pear shape first green and alter in brown.
These
fast growing trees can reach 15 meters of height. Although
resistant to slight frost, can not stand medium or severe frost.
It has been imported into Turkey during the last years. In the
south shoreline many not too large examples can be seen. Big
plants can be seen at the Antalya bus terminal premises.
